New Tech Helps Trailers From Losing Control
The way a trailer is loaded can have a big impact on trailer stability and driver safety. Now General Motors has introduced Electronic Trailer Sway Control technology to keep a trailer from swaying and affecting control of the lead vehicle. According to GM, loading too heavily in the rear of the trailer can cause it to sway, an effect called "the tail wagging the dog." This motion can cause drivers to lose control and endangering themselves and others on the road. The new technology senses that a trailer is starting to sway and prompts an electronic stability control, which utilizes the brake system to help the driver maintain control.
