General Motors: In-car entertainment
Depending on the wants and needs of the driver, today's car audio systems can control outside noises and automatically adjust interior noise generators, like DVD players. These premium audio systems include speakers that are in specific positions within the vehicle, so the driver can thereby control where the sound is directed. For exterior noises like the wind howling, an auto pilot microphone located in the overhead consul listens for these unwanted sounds and feeds that information into an amplifier. The system then automatically readjusts its noise level so it always sounds the same to the consumer.
