World Bank: Vietnam Women's Legal Status
An international conference has been told women's legal status such as their right to own land - can become a gateway out of poverty. Through a program implemented in 2002 in Vietnam, land titles are being re-issued with both the husband and wife's names attached. Land titles, officials say, provide women with financial security and credit to start small businesses, should they choose to do so. This program was part of conversations held during the Gender Equality Conference in Berlin. During the two-day event, leaders from around the world gathered to discuss various methods needed to create universal gender equality.
