UNICEF: NBA star and Goodwill Ambassador Pau Gasol
Welcomed by more than 2,000 children gathered in a Stadium in Luanda, Angola, NBA star and UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador Pau Gasol is here to highlight the country’s fight against HIV/AIDS. Accompanied by UNICEF staff, Mr. Gasol visited the Luanda Children's Hospital. Here many children are being treated for illnesses such as malaria, malnutrition, meningitis and HIV/AIDS. Apart from meeting their hero, these children are also here to participate in an event that leads up to the Afrobasket Tournament which will be held in Angola next month. With UNICEF’s support, the Tournament will feature a theme on HIV/AIDS prevention, and is expected to draw widespread attention from Angolan youth. Children of all ages are happy to get their photos taken with the star player, some even get the chance to play a match with him. Mr. Gasol told the children that life is stronger than AIDS, and he hopes to return to Angola one day and bring more support to fight HIV/AIDS.
